Prof. Noah Yusuf

Prof. Noah Yusuf, a Professor of Industrial Sociology and Peace and Security Studies, pursued his education at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria’s Premier University, where he earned all his degrees, including a B.Sc. (Hons.). Sociology in 1986, M.Sc. Sociology in 1991 and a Ph.D. Sociology in 2003.
He was employed as Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Sociology, University of Ilorin on 3rd March, 1992, where he rose to the rank of Professor of Sociology in October, 2012. He delivered the 159th inaugural lecture of the University of Ilorin on Thursday, 30th October, 2014, titled: Work, Industry and Society: The synergy that mirrors the reality of our everyday existence.
He served as Sub-Dean, Faculty of Business and Social Sciences (2000 – 2002); Head, Department of Sociology (2004 – 2005, 2010 – 2012, and 2014 – 2016); and Director, Centre for Peace and Strategic Studies (2017 – 2020), all at the University of Ilorin. He was also the pioneer Head of the Department of Sociology at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, Niger State, between 2006 and 2008.
He was, at different times, Chairman and member of the Accreditation Team of the National Universities Commission (NUC); Facilitator with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA); and Researcher with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) on corruption perception in Nigeria.
Prof. Yusuf is a member of prominent professional associations, including the Nigerian Anthropological and Sociological (Practitioners) Association (NASA), the Social Science Council of Nigeria (SSCN), and the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP), among others. He was conferred the title of Fellow of the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (FSPPS) in 2018.
He has over 60 academic publications in reputable national and international outlets. He was appointed as the fifth Vice-Chancellor of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, for a five-year tenure on Monday, 13th July 2020.
