Organized under the theme “AI’s Role in Community Development and Peacebuilding in Developing Nations,” the Silicon Valley Peace Conference 2026 brings together scholars, researchers, practitioners, policymakers, community leaders, and technology professionals to examine how artificial intelligence can contribute to human well-being, community development, and peacebuilding while addressing its social, ethical, and technological challenges.
The conference is organized in commemoration of the International Day of Peace, a United Nations-designated observance held annually on September 21. It responds to the UN’s call to mark the day through education, public awareness, dialogue, and activities that strengthen a culture of peace.
The 2026 gathering inaugurates the planned Silicon Valley Peace Conference series. The series seeks to provide a continuing forum where academic institutions, technology professionals, policymakers, practitioners, and communities can shape the ethical use of emerging technologies and translate technological advancement into knowledge, partnerships, and practical initiatives that promote human well-being, strengthen communities, and advance peacebuilding.
The Call for Papers was launched in December 2025 and attracted 79 proposals. Authors received editorial guidance on strengthening their proposed contributions before proceeding to the full-paper stage. 49 full-paper manuscripts were invited to be presented at the conference.
The submitted papers represent research-based and practice-based contributions from a wide range of disciplines and national contexts. Collectively, they examine responsible AI, peacebuilding, social inclusion, community empowerment, public policy, education, healthcare, environmental sustainability, cultural preservation, ethics, theology, data governance, and emerging AI systems.
The four-day conference will take place from September 17–20, 2026. Paper presentation sessions will be held on September 18–19 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 600 Colorado Avenue, Palo Alto, California. Educational, cultural, and networking programs across Silicon Valley and the San Francisco Bay Area will take place on September 17 and 20.
The conference also welcomes keynote speakers, invited guests, non-paper presenters, and participants who wish to contribute practical perspectives and engage in its academic and community activities. There are no registration, presentation, or publication fees. Meals will be provided throughout the four-day program, and participation in the scheduled networking and cultural programs will be complimentary.

Research Focus
Conference Subthemes
The Call for Papers invited research-based and practice-based contributions across six subthemes reflecting the conference’s central areas of inquiry. Together, they examine the opportunities, applications, and challenges of artificial intelligence in relation to peacebuilding, community development, human well-being, and responsible technological advancement.
Academic Contributions
Contribution Framework
The Call for Papers invited two broad forms of contribution: research-based papers and practice-based papers. All submissions were required to present original, unpublished work. Research-based papers were expected to offer theoretical, empirical, analytical, technical, or interdisciplinary insights. Practice-based papers were expected to examine real-world programs, tools, implementations, or community initiatives, including their experiences, challenges, outcomes, and lessons learned.
Authors were also required to disclose any use of large language models or other AI-assisted tools in preparing their abstracts or full papers. They remained responsible for verifying AI-assisted content and ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and originality of their work.
Within these two broad forms, authors could develop their work through the six contribution categories presented below. These categories provided appropriate frameworks for different forms of scholarly inquiry, policy analysis, technical investigation, and practice-based reflection.
