Cordel Green is an Attorney-at-Law, a former Assistant Attorney-General of Jamaica and the long-serving Executive Director of the Broadcasting Commission of Jamaica. His other affiliations include being Vice-Chairman of the UNESCO-Information For All Programme, Paris; Chairman of the UNESCO IFAP Working Group on Information Accessibility; Member of the National AI Task Force for Jamaica; Chairman of the Regulatory & Technical Committee for Digital Television SwitchOver (DSO) in Jamaica, implementing ATSC 3.0; Chairman of the Caribbean Training and Education Center for Health (C-Tech); and appointed as Chancellor’s representative on the Finance and General Purposes Committee of the University of the West Indies (UWI).
Mr Green’s finger prints can be found on significant AI policy and governance outputs in the Caribbean and among Small Island Developing States – including the Caribbean AI Initiative, the Caribbean AI Policy Roadmap, and report of the Jamaica National AI Task Force. He also participated in the Intergovernmental negotiations which in November 2021 led to the UNESCO General Conference adopting the Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence. In these capacities he conceptualized and spearheads the Artificial Intelligence for Information Accessibility (AI4IA) Annual Global Conference on 28 September to commemorate the International Day for Universal Access to Information (IDUAI).
In June 2024 he was honoured by UNESCO National IFAP Committee of the Russian Federation and the Government of Ugra, as an inaugural laureate of the International Evgeny Kuzmin International Award for Contribution to Information Society Development.
Mr Green holds Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) and Bachelor of Laws (Hons.) degrees from the University of the West Indies; a Master of Laws Degree with distinction, from the University of Sheffield in England; a Master of Business Administration degree from the Mona School of Business; is an alumnus of the Harvard Kennedy School Executive Education Programme, and a BlockChain Council certified metaverse expert.
